Settling in is a very important part of starting at a new nursery so you and your child are both relaxed and happy. All children will react differently to being left for the first time so it will depend on your child.
Start walking past the nursery frequently so your child becomes familiar with the building and talk about them going to the nursery. Find out if there are any other children at the nursery that your child might already know who they could play with. Arrange some visits in the nursery that you and your child can go to together to get used to the nursery surroundings and get use to the routine. From this you can then arrange a short period of time you can leave your child to have a play.
Getting to
know both the staff and children will help you to be more confident
in leaving your child at the nursery.

Each member
of staff works on a key worker system, which means they are responsible
for children's paperwork and reports. The staff provide feed back on your
child's day-to-day care. We work alongside parents so we discuss a full
daily routine with you before your child starts nursery and we encourage
you to talk to us about any changes in your child's routine. A daily sheet
will be written throughout their day at nursery and a communication book
for the Pre school goes home with you at the end of the day. It will include
what they have eaten or drunk at nursery, nappy changes, what they have
done and any other information. We always make time to talk to you at the
beginning and end of each day.
