The Pre-School
area is in the upstairs of the nursery and we encourage
the children to take part in different activities in our 3 different rooms.
This helps to promote their independence and choice.
We have 24
places within the pre-school unit for children aged 3 - 5 years.
We have 3 members of staff, therefore giving a staff to children ratio of
1:8.
In our pre-school we aim to provide a home from home environment, whilst
preparing children for school. We provide a wide variety of learning experiences
both indoors and out and will follow themes shared by the whole nursery.
We
have a jungle theme within our pre-school and have
named the rooms after jungle animals:
These
rooms are set out similar to a classroom to aid the transition for your
childto school. The rooms have a book corner for quiet times, construction
area, which promotes sharing and problem solving skills, an ICT area with
a computer that the children can access freely and programmable floor toys
such as bee-bots. We also have a investigation table where children can
explore the world around them by using equipment such as magnifying glasses
and telescopes, there is a graphics table to encourage early writing and
sharing skills.
Both rooms
are also used for free play and role-play. This promotes imaginative
play where the children can express themselves freely and interact with
their peers. Each room has a home corner, dressing up clothes, farm set,
railway, garage and vehicles and animals to name but a few! We encourage
all pre-school children to access our self-registration system which allows
the children to find their own name and place them on the board.
A
variety of group activities are carried out to develop children's concentration
and social skills daily, these include, memory games, soundtracks, flash
cards and feely bags. Every session the children will be encouraged to participate
in circle time which is adult led and provides opportunity for the children
to talk to each others, share news and views, play circle games and sing
songs. We encourage and promote the children's social skills and respect
that each child is different. The children will have the opportunity to
learn about other cultures and beliefs.
The Pre-School
group follows plans and activities that encourage children in all areas
of learning following the Foundation Stage. Long/short term and weekly plans
can be found on the planning board at the top of the stairs.

This is our
art and craft room used for a variety of creative and messy activities.
The activities that take place within this room are planned and of free
choice to ensure a mixture of different fun activities that the children
will all enjoy. Activities carried out in this room include: painting, gluing
and sticking, sand play, water play, junk modelling, messy play and creative
designs that may be displayed around the nursery. The children are encouraged
to participate in messy activities on a small and large scale for example,
custard play, papier mache, jelly play, clay modelling etc. The children
will have access to the range of materials that theyfeel they would like
to experiment with. This enables the children to have the right and freedom
to choose their own media to interpret their own work. We provide aprons
and overalls for all messy activities.

We
hope you and your child will be very happy
in our pre-school room.
