Curriculum

All children need to experience a planned programme of activities and experiences moulded to their stage of development and taking into account of their individual needs. Each child is allocated a key worker who will work closely with their key children to monitor and observe their progress and development. At Abracadabra Day Nursery the staff plan activities around the children’s interests. These activities cover the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These areas are:

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

We will provide children with the experiences and support they need to help them to develop a positive sense of themselves and of others, to form relationships, to develop social skills and to learn how to manage their feelings.

Communication and Language

We will give children the opportunity and encouragement to experience a rich language environment. We will develop their confidence in expressing themselves and encourage them to speak and listen in a variety of situations.

Physical Development

All children will be given opportunities to develop and practice their fine and gross motor skills and to increase their understanding of how their bodies work and what they need to do to be healthy and safe.

Literacy

We will provide opportunities for children to link sounds and letters and to learn to read and write. They will have access to a wide variety of reading material, such as book and poems.

Mathematics

We will provide children with opportunities to develop their understanding of number, measurement, pattern, shape and space by providing a broad range of contexts in which they can explore, enjoy, learn and practice.

Understanding of the World

With opportunities for all children to solve problems, make decisions, experiment and predict in a variety of contexts and to explore and find out about their environment and people and places that have significance in their lives. Technology is introduced to create varied learning experiences.

Expressive Arts and Design

There are opportunities for all children to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of art and design, music, movement and imaginative and role play activities.

In addition to the activities that cover the areas of learning in the EYFS there are also many other experiences for children to learn and develop through. Play is natural to children and is the means by which they learn. Through play the children learn new skills, develop new interests and encounter new experiences.
