All children need to experience a planned programme of activities and experiences moulded to their stage of development and taking account of their individual needs. Each child is allocated a key worker who will work closely with their key children to monitor and observe their progress and development. At Abracadabra Day Nursery the staff plan activities around a six-week topic, these activities cover all six areas of learning. These areas are:
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
We will provide children with the experiences and support they need to help them to develop a positive sense of themselves and of others.
Communication, Language and Literacy
We will give children the opportunity and encouragement to develop their use of language for communicating and thinking. We will develop their confidence to enable them to link sounds and letters and to form letter shapes.
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
We will provide children with opportunities to develop their understanding of number, measurement, pattern, shape and space by providing a broad range of contexts in which they can explore, enjoy, learn and practice.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
With opportunities for all children to solve problems, make decisions, experiment and predict in a variety of contexts and to explore and find out about their environment and people and places that have significance in their lives.
Physical Development
All children will be given opportunities to develop and practice their fine and gross motor skills and to increase their understanding of how their bodies work and what they need to do to be healthy and safe.
Creative Development
Opportunities for all children to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of art, design and technology, music, movement and imaginative and role play activities.
In addition to these focused activities there are many play activities and experiences for children to learn and develop through play supported by the staff. Play is natural to children and is the means by which they learn. Through play the children learn new skills, develop new interests and encounter new experiences.
